I purchased and mounted a pair of studded tires on my bike a couple of weeks ago. They’re definitely a little more work to spin, but on those cold morning commutes in the dark when the roads are slick it’s definitely worth the extra effort. The studs on dry pavement do actually sound like sizzling bacon.
I’ve been riding quite consistently this month and it’s been great. My new record was this morning when the thermometer said 3F as I left the house this morning. I get a lot of co-workers telling me I’m crazy, but it’s really not that bad. This morning my toes were just starting to get cold by the time I got to work, but within a few minutes of getting inside I was warmed up. I’m enjoying winter riding, but this is definitely giving me a new appreciation for the warmer months.
So how regularly are you riding these days folks?

I’m just getting out once a week or so. I did a total freeze out ride on Friday night in -15 or so wind chill.

I *was* riding every day, but I have to miss tonight’s ride. Work is getting in the way.

Daily Commutes. Not much riding otherwise.
